The Upstage Crew kicked off the 40th annual Grand Rapids Festival of The Arts as the first act on the City Stage. An hour and a half of fun was had by all. Thanks to Ann Teliczan for the great photo. Check out her blog www.michigansweetspot.com
Upstage Crew draws upon years of collective performance experience. Inspired by 60's blues revival artists like Peter Green and Charlie Musselwhite as well as West Coast and Chicago blues influences, Upstage Crew plays throwback blues that are sure to please every blues fan.
Mark Hines: Drums
Laying down the rock solid rhythm, Mark has 20 plus years of stage experience. Influenced at a young age by the great jazz drummers, Mark now takes pride in passing his enthusiasm for music on to his kids who are talented musicians in their own right.
Todd Dhyne: Vocals and Blues Harp
Front man and blues harp master Todd has years of experience performing with a variety of West Michigan bands. Todd delivers the blues with authority and ease.
Jon Gundry: Lead Guitar
A lifelong blues fan, Jon has been been absorbing the chops of the blues greats since a teen. Always ready to complement the song with a tasteful lead, Jon also shares dueling leads with Todd Dhyne when the mood is right.
Matthew Quail: Bass
Matt has been playing for 25 years. Exposed earlier in life to a TV program on the great Muddy Waters, he exclaimed, "What is that!", and started bending the strings on his folk acoustic guitar. Both a fine bass and guitar player, Matthew knows his way around the fretboard.
Rob Ward: Keyboard and Vocals
He can burn up a keyboard like no-one else. His sound is classically trained--worn smooth by life and the road; when he plays you can truly hear the depths of his soul. Interests are music history in blues, jazz, and alternative health.
